Annet van Egmond is a sculptor and light artist with over 35 years of experience, and she knows better than anyone how to make light felt rather than just seen. Her name is well-established in the international lighting world, and her sculptures have long been loved by architects and interior designers. Through her collaboration with Maretti Lighting, she is taking a new step in her career. Her recognizable signature style is now being translated into a new lighting collection for both private interiors and high-end projects.

Annet van Egmond is a sculptor and light artist. After studying Sculpture at the HKU, she created her first light sculpture, Chandelier, in 1989. This work soon hung in the gallery of Eckhardt & Leeuwenstein in Amsterdam and later found its way to Berlin, shortly after the fall of the Wall. Since then, Annet has worked at the intersection of art, light, and technology. For her, light is not an afterthought but an integral part of the work. She often works with reflection, intimacy, and a sense of wonder within a space. Nature, rhythm, and repetition play a major role in her visual language. Hydrangeas, branch structures, and leaf veins recur in her sculptures and light objects.
Maretti and Annet share the same passion for light and craftsmanship. Both parties have a keen eye for detail and are known for their authenticity in design and execution. While Annet has spent years developing her sculptures, Maretti brings thirty years of technical expertise, production, and project experience. What makes this collaboration unique is that it is not merely a designer and a brand creating a product line together; rather, an existing art sculpture has been translated into a commercial lighting collection. This makes the artwork accessible for use in your home, hotels, restaurants, or other projects. Annet was closely involved throughout the entire development process. From the first prototypes to the final finishing touches, the collaboration was intensive. As a result, a collection has emerged that remains true to her artistic origins while being technically realized to Maretti’s high-quality standards.
As a female artist, I put my soul into every sculpture—my sculptures are a “She.”
The Hortense collection is based on the hydrangeas from Annet van Egmond’s garden. The veins, structures, and shapes of the leaves served as the starting point for the sculptures. The fixtures are made entirely of metal, yet they appear organic and natural in form. The leaf veins are CNC-lasered, while the other components are hand-shaped, welded, and modeled.
During the development of Hortense, Annet spent years creating a light-sculptural flower. Her goal was to replicate the natural behavior of light through a leaf as closely and sustainably as possible using just one watt of light. When Hortense is illuminated, reflections and subtle shadows cast soft patterns on the wall. The collection brings nature indoors, demonstrating how light, material, and form together create a calm and atmospheric space.
In collaboration with Maretti, Hortense has been developed into a complete lighting line. The collection includes a wall lamp and pendant lamps with 1, 3, 5, or 7 light points. The current design features a bronze frame with gold-colored flowers, highlighting the floral shapes within the composition.

At the Masters Expo 2025, Maretti impressed with a gallery-like stand, where the monumental Hortense chandelier became the symbol of gathering, design, and craftsmanship.
The collaboration with Annet was showcased on a grand scale for the first time at the Masters Expo 2025 at RAI Amsterdam. Maretti’s stand was designed like a gallery, emphasizing meeting and networking. The showstopper of the stand was the spectacular Hortense chandelier, composed of multiple Hortense pendant lamps. This chandelier literally rose above the stand and extended into the space itself, reaching a total height of approximately five meters. Visitors walked beneath and alongside the sculptural floral forms, while the light cast soft rhythms of shadows onto the walls and room dividers. This brought the essence of the collaboration between Annet and Maretti vividly to life on the exhibition floor.
Much time was spent in the studio and workshop for the Hortense collection. We have images of the very first Hortense sculpture, which Annet welded herself in 2019. In those photos, you can see the raw process, with separate metal parts gradually being shaped, welded, and polished into a single organic whole.
There are also photos of the current process, in which the leaf veins are CNC-cut and the components are then hand-assembled, welded, and finished. You can see the difference between the initial artistic prototype and the final collection that goes into production at Maretti.
These behind-the-scenes images clearly show how the collaboration works: Annet in her studio, focused on form and expression, and Maretti in the workshop, focused on construction, lighting technology, and quality for serial production. Together, they ensure that every Hortense fixture receives the same care and attention as the original artwork.
